MMDR Amendment Act, 2023 gets Presidential nod
This is the fifth amendment to the MMDR Act, 1957 since 2014.The Central government is now empowered to auction mines and ramp up production of 26 critical minerals in India.President of India Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Amendment Act, 2023.Moreover, the output for lithium, cobalt, and graphite is likely to up, as supply of these minerals are expected to meet the demand in various segments such as electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and critical equipment.Mandating e-auction for mineral resources, and allowing extension of mining leases which were expiring were part of the earlier changes.

India's solar power generation capacity surpasses the 70,000 MW mark
Chhattisgarh and Bihar accounted for 962 MW, and 203 MW of solar power capacity respectively.The country has an estimated solar power potential of 7,48,990 MW.The contribution of Madhya Pradesh was 3,021 MW, while Uttar Pradesh contributed 2,526 MW of solar capacity.Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh has informed that of the total 70,096 MW capacity, Rajasthan has contributed 17,839 MW, followed by Gujarat which contributed 10,133 MW, Karnataka with 9,050 MW, and Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh contributing 6,892 MW, 4,870 MW, 4,695 MW and 4,552 MW respectively.India's solar power generation capacity has surpassed the 70,000 MW mark as on 30 June, 2023.

Chhattisgarh CM dedicates 2,848 development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore
The CM announced that all the headquarters in the Bastar division would have BEd and DEd colleges to expand the scope for education and further studies.The residential school, with 50 seats, will be built in Tokapal and Lohandiguda regions.23 crore in a state-level programme organised in Sitapur of Surguja district.Similarly, a BEd college will be established in Ambikapur of Surguja district along with a cultural centre and convert a 20-seater pre-matric tribal residential school to a 50-seater.The indoor stadium will be set up at Jagdalpur, along with government medical colleges and the distribution of seven shops to tribal communities to encourage self-employment.

Central govt initiates ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Corridor’ to connect tribal regions
As per the Indian Railways, a complete new rail line project has been included in the budget for FY 2023-24.The detailed project reports (DPRs) of the projects identified under the corridor, including those that fall entirely or partially in Odisha, requires consultations with various stakeholders, including state governments, public representatives, organisations, rail users, tribal people, and others.The Central government has initiated the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Corridor’ with an estimated cost of Rs 70,000 crore to expand rail infrastructure for promoting rail connectivity in tribal-dominated regions.New line projects will be developed based on last mile connectivity, missing links and other routes, augmentation of congested or saturated lines, and many others, as determined by the progress of present projects, overall availability of funding, and competing demands.

Transactions worth Rs 1.3 lakh cr completed under NMP in FY23
The government had launched NMP in August, 2021 to accelerate the creation of infrastructure in the country.Transactions with aggregate monetisation value of about Rs 97,000 crore and Rs 1.The top five sectors (by estimated value) represent 83 percent of the aggregate pipeline value and includes roads followed by railways, power, oil and gas pipelines and telecom.3 lakh crore were completed during 2021-22 and 2022-23 respectively in terms of accruals or private investment under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP).NMP estimates aggregate monetisation potential of Rs six lakh crore through core assets of the central government comprising statutory entities and public sector enterprises over a four-year period, from FY 2022 to FY 2025.
